By the time &#8220;The Pulsations&#8221; got a job as the house band on WGN&#8217;s &#8220;All Time Hits&#8221; television program, the British Invasion was in full swing. When the show&#8217;s producers suggested that the band take on a British name to capitalize on the event, a security guard suggested The Buckinghams.<\/p>\n<p>What followed was a string of 4 Keener hits, beginning with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/artist\/jimmy-holvay-p154126\/songs\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Holvay <\/a>penned &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kind_of_a_Drag\" target=\"_blank\">Kind of a Drag<\/a>&#8220;. \u00a0The song reached number one <a href=\"https:\/\/keener13.org\/guides\/670130W.html\" target=\"_blank\">the week of January 23rd<\/a> and as the year came to an end, &#8220;Kind of a Drag&#8221; was the <a href=\"https:\/\/keener13.org\/?page_id=288\" target=\"_blank\">9th most popular record of 1967<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Holvay had the magic touch and his contributions to\u00a0&#8220;Don&#8217;t You Care,&#8221; &#8220;Hey Baby (They&#8217;re Playing Our Song),&#8221; and &#8220;Susan&#8221; kept the Buckinghams on the WKNR Music Guide for the next year and a half.<\/p>\n<p>Three decades later, the band released the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/album\/terra-firma-r381551\" target=\"_blank\">Terra Firma<\/a>&#8221; collection, which included <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/music\/player?sid=74891949&amp;ac=now\" target=\"_blank\">this very listenable a capella<\/a> version of &#8220;Kind of a Drag&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Buckinghams - Kind Of A Drag\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Hq1fpN1qWv8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our look through the Keener 1967 archives continues with two takes on The Buckingham&#8217;s most popular record.
