In the United Kingdom!<\/p>\n<p>It was &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.metrolyrics.com\/band-of-gold-lyrics-freda-payne.html\"><strong>Band Of Gold<\/strong><\/a>&#8220;, and it was about a &#8220;Detroit&#8221; as a record could be.<\/p>\n<p>Sung by The D&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/artist\/freda-payne-mn0000796710\"><strong>Freda Payne <\/strong><\/a>with backup vocals by Joyce Wilson and Thelma Hopkins (who soon became <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.classicbands.com\/dawn.html\">Dawn, with Tony Orlando<\/a><\/strong>). Written (under the pseudonym Edythe Wayne) by Motown legends <a href=\"https:\/\/rockhall.com\/inductees\/holland-dozier-and-holland\/bio\/\"><strong>Holland-Dozier-Holland<\/strong><\/a>, with members of the Funk Brothers including <a href=\"http:\/\/denniscoffeysite.com\/holland-dozier-holland\/\"><strong>Dennis Coffey<\/strong><\/a>, Bob Babbitt, and Uriel Jones on the track.
