Confession. The Rascals<\/strong> <\/a>were, and are, one of my favorite groups.<\/p>\n

I loved the songs, love-love-loved their blue-eyed soul<\/strong><\/a> sound. Dino twirling the sticks, Gene ripping power chords, Eddie with two tambourines, Felix half-hidden behind the Hammond B-3<\/strong><\/a>. They were “Jersey Boys”, with all the attitude (and “hug-ability”, right ladies?), dressed up in a combination of Carnaby Street<\/strong> <\/a>meets Greenwich Village<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0meets Plus Fours<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Bottom line, when the\u00a0Rascals\u00a0came on Keener, my\u00a0volume knob went to loud. When I got into radio, and a Rascals song came up, it got\u00a0very loud<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

So today (10\/23), we celebrate\u00a0Eddie Brigati’s<\/a><\/strong> birthday. Eddie, along with Felix Cavaliere<\/a><\/strong>, co-wrote the vast majority of the Rascals’ library<\/a><\/strong>, including “A Girl Like You”, “Groovin”, “A Beautiful Morning”, “People Got To Be Free”, and “Lonely Too Long”. Mostly, Felix sang lead, with a notable, wonderful exception late summer of 1967.<\/p>\n
