At Stax-Volt, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_songs_written_by_Isaac_Hayes_and_David_Porter\">David Porter and Isaac Hayes<\/a><\/strong> with Sam and Dave. The Monkees with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.officialboyceandhart.com\/\">Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart<\/a><\/strong>. It&#8217;s a long list.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gladys_Knight_%26_the_Pips\">Gladys Knight and the Pips<\/a><\/strong>, it was a former <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.olemiss.edu\/qa-ole-miss-alumnus-football-great-jim-weatherly\/\">All-SEC quarterback<\/a><\/strong> from Ole Miss, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimweatherly.com\/\">Jim Weatherly<\/a><\/strong>; who wrote 1973&#8217;s Grammy Award-winning &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Neither_One_of_Us_(Wants_to_Be_the_First_to_Say_Goodbye)\">Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First to Say Goodbye)<\/a><\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>It was the beginning of a magical run. \u00a0Dissatisfied with their second-tier status at Motown, Gladys and the Pips moved to\u00a0a new record label, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Buddah_Records\">Buddah<\/a><\/strong>, recording Weatherly&#8217;s &#8220;Where Peaceful Waters Flow&#8221;, the million-selling &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/You%27re_the_Best_Thing_That_Ever_Happened_to_Me\">You&#8217;re The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me<\/a><\/strong>&#8220;, and &#8220;Between Her Goodbye and My Hello.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And, there was one more.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/anatomy-of-a-song-midnight-train-to-georgia-1376004450?tesla=y\">Midnight Train To Georgia<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; was released in August of 1973, and was an instant smash, going all the way to Number One on this day, October 27th, 1973.
