The groundbreaking Beatle film of the same name premiered on July 17, 1968. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/movies\/movie-features\/yellow-submarine-at-50-why-the-psychedelic-animated-beatles-movie-is-timeless-696384\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This piece from Rolling Stone<\/a> reminds us that, &#8220;The adventures of John, Paul, George and Ringo stands as a pop-art animated masterpiece \u2013 and a new rerelease reminds us of why it still feels ahead of its time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The anniversary was celebrated with a limited theatrical re-release of the film, a project that the Beatles were initially less then enthused about doing. They owed one more picture to United Artists but didn&#8217;t want a reprise of &#8220;Help&#8221;. Ever the problem solver, manager Brian Epstein suggested a feature length cartoon. Inspired by listening to the yet to be released &#8220;Sgt. Pepper&#8217;s Lonely Hearts Club Band&#8221; LP, the creative team of animators and writers, including future &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Love_Story_(1970_film)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Love Story<\/a>&#8221; penman Erich Segal, found their muse.<\/p>\n<p>As Rolling Stone&#8217;s David Fear puts it, &#8220;It doesn\u2019t matter whether it\u2019s been decades or merely days since you\u2019ve seen it last. Originally written by\u00a0written by\u00a0<a title=\"Jeff Barry\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeff_Barry\">Jeff Barry<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Ellie Greenwich\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ellie_Greenwich\">Ellie Greenwich<\/a>\u00a0for their group,\u00a0<a title=\"The Raindrops\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Raindrops\">The Raindrops<\/a>, The Shondells cover, recorded two years later launched Tommy&#8217;s star. But it didn&#8217;t happen overnight. Recorded at radio station WNIL and released on a regional label, Hanky Panky had a brief, regional prime, before Pittsburgh DJ,\u00a0&#8220;Mad Mike&#8221; Metrovich, resurrected it a year later to growing acclaim. The then unemployed Tommy James took the single to New York, pitching it to Roulette Records. With the label&#8217;s national clout, Hanky Panky was on it&#8217;s way to the top of the charts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Cream.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2836\" src=\"https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Cream.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"149\" srcset=\"https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Cream.png 994w, https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Cream-150x100.png 150w, https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Cream-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Cream-768x510.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>The term &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Supergroup_(music)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supergroup<\/a>&#8221; was coined that same month in 1966, when Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker teamed up to form <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cream_(band)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cream<\/a><\/strong>. Their two biggest Keener hits were &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zt51rITH3EA\">Sunshine of Your Love<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VR90gQ-SIaY\">White Room<\/a>&#8220;. And they hold the distinction of being the first band to earn a platinum selling double-album, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wheels_of_Fire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wheels of Fire<\/a>&#8220;. Cream&#8217;s star burned brightly and briefly. They dissolved in the spring of 1968, with each individual going on to further success, Baker and Clapton collaborating to form <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blind_Faith\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blind Faith<\/a> along with Steve Winwood and Rick Grech, Clapton adding magic to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Delaney,_Bonnie_%26_Friends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delaney &amp; Bonnie and Friends<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Derek_and_the_Dominos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Derek and the Dominoes<\/a>, and Bruce enjoying a fruitful solo career.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Batmobile.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2839\" src=\"https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Batmobile-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"130\" srcset=\"https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Batmobile-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Batmobile-150x75.jpg 150w, https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Batmobile-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/keener13.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Batmobile.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 260px) 100vw, 260px\" \/><\/a>Want your own replica of the original TV <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Batmobile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Batmobile<\/a><\/strong>? Mark Racop and his company, <a href=\"https:\/\/buybatparts.com\/cms\/\">Fiberglass Freaks<\/a>, can make you one. The ode to the George Barris design starts at $99K with tricked out versions topping out at a quarter million. Barris&#8217; original was built on a one-off Ford Lincoln Futura chassis with Ford Galaxie parts contributing to two replicas, built for show and one for the drag racing circuit. As Wikipedia notes,\u00a0\u00a0<a title=\"Tim Burton\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tim_Burton\">Tim Burton<\/a>&#8216;s live-action films\u00a0<i><a title=\"Batman (1989 film)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Batman_(1989_film)\">Batman<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(1989) and\u00a0<i><a title=\"Batman Returns\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Batman_Returns\">Batman Returns<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(1992) presented a different version of the Batmobile, which reflected those films&#8217;\u00a0<a title=\"Art Deco\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Art_Deco\">Art Deco<\/a>\u00a0version of Gotham City, both of which were designed by\u00a0<a title=\"Anton Furst\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anton_Furst\">Anton Furst<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-NYTimes_59-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-60\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0It was long, low and sleek, and was built on a\u00a0<a title=\"Chevrolet Impala\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chevrolet_Impala\">Chevrolet Impala<\/a>\u00a0chassis.
