Ann Mitchell's daughter Debbie was in a competition at her church during
Lent to see who could bring in the greatest number of individuals to attend
services. The prize was an oil painting. Debbie brought in 86 different
people and that was more than enough to win. Bill Hauke is on
vacation this week, making a trip by car to Florida. He's taking his parents
along since they said they wanted to see that part of the world before they
got any older. they're 86 and 87 years of age! Also vacationing this week is
Frank Maruca and his family, in and around Pittsburgh.
Rich Pawlowicz and his family were happily surprised by the arrival, on the
Saturday before Easter, of Rich's brother George who has been in service in
Viet Nam. He's now home for a 30-day vacation and will be spending the
balance of his service time of 10 months in the United States.
Speaking of servicemen, that's what we'll be calling Chuck Borchard before
long as the long arm of Uncle Sam has reached out and handed him his
"Greetings".
Our News Department is now up to its full complement with the arrival of
Brian Wood. He comes to us from WTIX - New Orleans and for two years before
that he worked at 'our former Battle Creek Station, WKFR. Welcome to the
group, Brian.
Congratulations to Phil Nye, Erik Smith and the WKNR News Department. Phil
and Erik are in Lansing today to receive the following awards from the
Associated Press: First Place Award - Best Regularly Scheduled Local
Newscast (for the third consecutive year).
First Place Award - Best Regularly Scheduled Hard News Documentary (for the
third consecutive year.)
Special Mention Award - General Excellence of News Presentation (for the
third consecutive year.)
Special Mention Award - General Excellence of Individual News Reporting (to
newsman Erik Smith for the second consecutive year).
Like we always say - the greatest news department ever!
This is Ron Greenberg's last week at the station. He's going to be a
salesman and truck driver for a linen service.
The winner of our "What's His Name" contest was Ellen Bungard of East
Detroit.
PROJECT DETROIT subject for Sunday, April 21, 1968, will be a special report
on progress of the New Detroit Committee since its formation following last
summer's civil disturbance.
