Today in 1967, Arlo Guthrie releases Alice’s Restaurant, his 18 minute recounting of adventures in Stockbridge Mass, where an arrest for littering, if the story is to be believed, ultimately disqualified him from the draft. The song became the basis for an Arthur Penn film of the same name, starring Arlo as himself.

Starting Sept. 25, people can request four free tests per household courtesy of the government. Officials say the tests are able to detect the latest variants and are intended to be used through the end of the year.

Today in 1952, “The Adventures of Superman” starring George Reeves premieres in syndication in the US. Reeves would become so identified with the role that the one-time character actor in “Gone With the Wind” found it hard to find work afterward. The circumstances surrounding Reeves’ death spawned the 2006 film, “Hollywoodland” starring Ben Affleck.

The Dodgers beat the Tigers, 8-3 in LA. Bill Maher and Drew Berrymore backtrack on returning to the airwaves after backlashes. What we’re talking about today:
The Lions take on the Seahawks today at one 1pm at Ford Field. The Auto Show continues today from 10am till 8pm at Hunting Place. The Metro Boat Show’s final day is today, 11am-6pm at Lake St. Clair Metropark. Yesterday, Michigan overcame a sloppy start to beat Bowling Green 316, while Michigan State suffered it’s worst defeat in history against Washington, 41-7. Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Jackman have decided to end their marriage after 27 years and two children.

On September 16th, 1972, the Spinners followed Aretha Franklin’s advice and switched from Motown to Atlantic Records. The label promoted “How Could I Let You Get Away,” but we DJs discovered the flip side and “I’ll Be Around,(YouTube) with Bobby Smith on lead became a massive hit, selling seven million copies. The first United Auto Workers strike since 2019 hit The Big Three automakers last night. More than 12,900 workers walked off the job at Ford’s Bronco plant in Wayne, Stellantis NV’s Jeep Wrangler plant in Toledo and a General Motors Co. plant in Missouri.In September 2019, almost 50,000 hourly workers, including temporary staff, went on strike at 31 GM factories and 21 other sites in nine states. After nearly six weeks of striking, negotiators from the union and the company reached a labor contract in October 2019. GM CEO Mary Barra is hopeful for a quick resolution to the current walkout.

Meanwhile, the North American International Auto Show continues in Detroit through September 24. After three days of forums and pressers, The “Public” show kicks off tomorrow at Huntington Place convention center, the former Cobo Hall. Here’s what you’ll see.
