Hollywood Studios and the Writers Union have announced a tentative deal to end the writers’ strike. The aggrement won’t impact the ongoing strike by SAG/AFTRA, the union representing actors.

The Association’s Terry Kirkman passed away this weekend at age 83. Terry wrote and sang lead on “Cherish”, “Everything That Touches You” and “Requiem For The Masses”. Today in 1967, Arlo Guthrie releases Alice’s Restaurant, his 18 minute recounting of adventures in Stockbridge Mass, where an arrest for littering, if the story is to be believed, ultimately disqualified him from the draft. The song became the basis for an Arthur Penn film of the same name, starring Arlo as himself.

Starting Sept. 25, people can request four free tests per household courtesy of the government. Officials say the tests are able to detect the latest variants and are intended to be used through the end of the year.

On September 16th, 1972, the Spinners followed Aretha Franklin’s advice and switched from Motown to Atlantic Records. The label promoted “How Could I Let You Get Away,” but we DJs discovered the flip side and “I’ll Be Around,” (YouTube) with Bobby Smith on lead became a massive hit, selling seven million copies. The first United Auto Workers strike since 2019 hit The Big Three automakers last night. More than 12,900 workers walked off the job at Ford’s Bronco plant in Wayne, Stellantis NV’s Jeep Wrangler plant in Toledo and a General Motors Co. plant in Missouri.In September 2019, almost 50,000 hourly workers, including temporary staff, went on strike at 31 GM factories and 21 other sites in nine states. After nearly six weeks of striking, negotiators from the union and the company reached a labor contract in October 2019. GM CEO Mary Barra is hopeful for a quick resolution to the current walkout.
